Desia Eco Village – our home for 4 nights with our lovely local community from surrounding villages: March 2019

Below: Palm Leaf Painters – where will experience our own personal workshop with the artists; group mixed media workshop; pattachitra paintings; sketchbooks

It is with great pleasure that Catherine Parker Art Tours, welcomes you to this new Sketchbook Art Program involving daily painting, drawing as well as mixed media workshops and visits to traditional artisans –

  • Professional development available for Art Educators: approx 32 hours

Odisha (Orissa) is a beautiful, culturally diverse state on the East coast of India with numerous Adivasis ( 62 indigenous tribes) groups, with some still living in relative isolation.  The traditional weaving and body adornment of the various indigenous groups are a work of beauty, deeply embedded in nature with sacred intent.

This tour combines visits to small villages in the mountainous region of Koraput, IKAT weaving villages, a non touristed Artist village, Hirapur Tantric Yogini Temple, the Mahima Monks who dedicate their life to service for the planet and so much more. All researched with impeccable dedication, respect, love and joy. Designed to inspire artists and hopefully leave a lasting imprint for years to come.

 Artist village:

Our special artist village is a small community and not yet touristed: It is best known for its traditional Pattachitra painters (cloth based scroll painting) that dates back to 5 BC, Palm Leaf Painters and the Gotipua dance troupes, a classical dance that precedes the Indain classical dance form of Odissi – we will have out very own private performance

Below: Gotipua dance troupe – please play video!!
